• Project Name: OSU South High Rise Chiller Plant & South Lawn Piping
  • Location: Columbus, OH
  • Client: The Ohio State University
  • Industry: Institutional
  • Size: Approx. $4.5 Million

Project Description: MIELKE took the lead in developing a highly complex BIM model for this new central chiller plant that would be constructed 2- stories below grade in a large concrete bunker.  Approximately 67% of the pipe welds for all large bore piping were completed ahead of time in our Medina, OH fabrication facility.  Large equipment and piping spools were carefully lowered into place between two existing high rise dormitories through a tight access port. At the heart of this new chiller plant are 3- 800 ton heat pump chillers, an associated geothermal well-field, and many large scale pumps and heat exchangers.  After start-up of the chiller plant, MIELKE received a large scale addition to the project that included extending piping systems throughout campus tunnels and adding a secondary pump & heat exchanger station.
